Buy and sell signals for Bank Nifty, the index that moves fast and wide

Bank Nifty is a small basket of bank stocks, and two or three of them do most of the talking. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and SBI carry much of the weight, so one block deal or one result can shift the index by several hundred points. It travels faster and wider than Nifty in both directions, which is why intraday traders like it and why it punishes loose stop-losses.

WizeBuySell works as Bank Nifty signal software on AmiBroker and TradingView. When a candle closes and the conditions are met, it prints a buy or sell with entry, T1, T2, T3 and a stop-loss that trails as targets are hit. The signal does not repaint. It is a chart tool, not a tip: the order, the contract and the quantity are yours.

Why the first 15 minutes on Bank Nifty are different

Bank Nifty's opening candles are routinely the largest of the day. Overnight moves in US banks, the ADR prices of HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, and any RBI or results news are all priced in the first few minutes, often with a spike one way and a full retrace the other. A 300-point first candle at illustrative levels near 56,000 is unremarkable.

Because our signals confirm on candle close, the earliest a 15-minute signal can appear is 9:30, and on 5 minutes it is 9:20. That delay is deliberate. You miss the first spike, and you also avoid acting on a candle that may reverse before it finishes.

The catch: after a big opening candle, the stop-loss on the first signal can sit a long way from entry. Check that distance in points before you decide quantity. On Bank Nifty that one habit matters more than the timeframe you choose.

Bank Nifty timeframes and what each one costs you

TimeframeWho uses itWhat to expectMain risk
3m / 5mFull-time scalpersMany signals, entries close to the turnFlips in midday chop; brokerage and slippage add up
15mMost intraday tradersA few signals a day, stop-loss outside routine noiseEntry arrives later after a fast move
30mPart-time tradersOne or two signals, wider targetsWide stop-loss in points, so quantity must drop

Signal counts vary with the day. A choppy day gives more of them, and shorter ones.

Event days: RBI policy, bank results and the heavyweights

Bank Nifty has its own calendar. RBI monetary policy decisions are announced during market hours, usually mid-morning, and the index can travel 500 points in the minutes around the rate decision and again during the governor's press conference. Quarterly results from the large private banks, often declared on a weekend or after the close, show up as gaps at the next open.

A price-based signal has no idea any of this is scheduled. It fires on the candle that closes, and during an announcement that candle may be three times its normal size. You can stand aside for the half hour around a policy decision, or trade it at reduced size knowing slippage will be real.

Watch the heavyweights too. When HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank move together, Bank Nifty signals tend to follow through. When one is up and the other down, the index chops even though each stock is trending.

A working routine for a Bank Nifty session

One way to work with the software through the day. Adjust it to your own rules.

  1. 01

    Before 9:15

Note the expected gap and whether any bank results or RBI event is due. Fix the maximum loss you will accept for the day, in rupees.

  2. 02

    First signal

When the alert fires, read the points between entry and stop-loss first. Size the position from that distance, then place the order with your broker.

  3. 03

    At T1

The stop-loss trails to entry. Many traders book part of the position here, so the remainder cannot turn into a loss beyond costs.

  4. 04

    After 2:45 pm

New intraday signals have little time to reach T2. Skip them or plan only for T1, and exit before your broker's auto square-off time.

Spot, futures or options: which chart to put the signal on

Most Bank Nifty volume is in options, but most people read direction from the spot index or the current-month future. Run the indicator on whichever chart you will take levels from. Spot and futures differ by a premium that shifts through the month, so a stop-loss at 56,250 on spot is not 56,250 on the future.

If you buy options on a Bank Nifty signal, remember the premium will not move point for point with the index. A 150-point move to T1 may add far less to an out-of-the-money option, and time decay works against you while you wait. The software does not choose strikes or expiries.

What goes wrong on Bank Nifty

Speed cuts both ways. Bank Nifty can run from entry to stop-loss inside a single 5-minute candle, and a stop-loss order placed at the level may fill well beyond it. On news spikes this slippage is normal, not exceptional.

Sideways days produce whipsaws: buy, stop-loss, sell, stop-loss, all inside a 250-point band. The software cannot tell you in advance which kind of day it is. It also does nothing about position size, and oversizing on a fast index is how most accounts get hurt. No accuracy figure is published for Bank Nifty.

Questions about Bank Nifty

Which timeframe works best for Bank Nifty intraday signals?

Fifteen minutes is the common middle ground. It keeps you out of most one-candle spikes while still giving an entry early enough to reach T1 and T2 on a trending day. Five minutes gives earlier entries and noticeably more whipsaws around midday. Thirty minutes suits traders who cannot watch the screen, but the stop-loss gets wide, so quantity has to come down.

Are Bank Nifty signals different from the ones on Nifty?

The logic is identical; the instrument is not. Bank Nifty's candles are larger, so entry-to-stop-loss distances and target gaps are larger in points, and signals change direction more often on volatile days. The two indices also disagree regularly, for instance when IT stocks lead and banks lag, so do not take a Bank Nifty trade because Nifty gave a signal.

Can I use these signals to buy Bank Nifty options?

Many users do. They read the buy or sell on the index chart and then pick a call or put themselves. The limitation is that the targets and stop-loss are index levels, not premium levels, and the premium depends on strike, days to expiry and volatility as well as direction. You can also apply the indicator directly to an option chart, where the levels are in premium terms.

What happens to an open signal during an RBI policy announcement?

Nothing special happens inside the software. The levels stay where they were plotted, and if price crosses the stop-loss the chart marks it. In the market, though, the announcement candle can jump straight through your stop-loss and fill much lower or higher. The software does not pause, warn or widen levels for scheduled events. Watching the RBI calendar is your job.

Do I need AmiBroker, or is TradingView enough for Bank Nifty?

TradingView is enough to see every signal, and it works on the free tier and on the mobile app. AmiBroker adds the watchlist scanner, which helps if you also track the individual bank stocks, and its alerts do not depend on TradingView's alert limits. It needs a Windows PC, your own licence and a real-time data feed from an authorised vendor.
