Buy and sell signals for USDINR, EURINR, GBPINR and JPYINR on NSE

Exchange-traded currency derivatives in India are rupee pairs listed on recognised exchanges: USDINR, EURINR, GBPINR and JPYINR on NSE, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm IST. They are the quietest instruments we cover. USDINR can spend a whole session inside ten paise. That makes this a different kind of trade, with small ranges, tight targets and a lot of waiting.

WizeBuySell plots signals on these four pairs in AmiBroker or TradingView: entry, T1, T2, T3 and a trailing stop-loss, confirmed when the candle closes. It is built for the exchange-listed contracts. It is not meant for offshore forex or CFD brokers, and we do not support it there.

USDINR moves in paise, and the RBI is in the room

The Reserve Bank of India is an active participant in the rupee market. When it is leaning against a move, USDINR can sit in a band of fifteen paise for days. When the band gives way, the pair can travel thirty or forty paise in two sessions and then go quiet again at the new level.

Inside a band, signals are few and their targets are small. The 5-minute chart is close to useless then; the hourly chart is where a USDINR trend first becomes visible. When the band breaks, the same hourly chart tends to give one signal that runs for several sessions, with the stop-loss trailing behind it.

What pushes the rupee is mostly outside the chart: the dollar's strength worldwide, crude oil prices, foreign fund flows into and out of Indian equities, and importer dollar demand near month-end. The software reads none of that. It reads the price those forces leave behind.

How the four rupee pairs differ on a chart

Levels and ranges are illustrative, to show proportion between the pairs.

PairLevelCommon day rangeCharacter
USDINR88.108 to 20 paiseMost volume, narrowest range, RBI influence
EURINR103.4030 to 60 paiseFollows EURUSD; wakes up in European hours
GBPINR118.6040 to 80 paiseWidest of the four; reacts to UK data
JPYINR59.6020 to 45 paiseQuoted per 100 yen; moves with global risk mood; thin

Volume in the three cross pairs can be thin. Look at the order book before you trust a level to the last paisa.

Tight targets change how you take a currency signal

A 15-minute USDINR signal might read entry 88.14, T1 88.19, stop-loss 88.08. Five paise up, six paise down. At that scale the bid-ask spread and brokerage are a visible fraction of T1, and a single tick of slippage on entry changes the trade's arithmetic.

Three habits follow. Use limit orders at or near the printed entry instead of market orders. If price has already moved two paise beyond entry when you see the alert, let it go. And prefer the hourly or daily chart, where targets of fifteen to thirty paise leave room for costs.

A currency alert, to four decimals

An illustrative 30-minute EURINR sell alert in the software's format. Currency prices carry four decimals because the exchange quotes them that way.

alert.txt
SELL EURINR @ 103.4600 | T1 103.3200 | T2 103.1500 | T3 102.9400 | SL 103.6400 | TF 30m | 14:00

Risk is 18 paise; T1 is 14 paise away and T3 is 52. When T1 is hit the stop-loss comes down to 103.4600. Take the contract quantity from the current NSE circular to turn paise into rupees per lot.

Who may trade these contracts: check before you chart

The rules on who may take positions in exchange-traded currency derivatives, and for what purpose, are set by the RBI and the exchanges. They have been revised in recent years. Read the current NSE and RBI circulars and ask your broker before you place a trade.

The software plots signals on the chart either way. It cannot tell you whether a position is permitted for you, and nothing on this page is advice on that point.

Limits of signals on rupee pairs

Low volatility cuts both ways. There are long stretches with no signal, or with signals whose T1 barely clears your costs. Central-bank activity can produce one sharp candle against the trend with nothing on the chart beforehand.

The rupee market closes at 5:00 pm while the dollar trades all night, and major US data comes out after the close. The result is a 9:00 am gap that can open beyond your stop-loss. Thin cross-pair volume means your fill may differ from the alert. We publish no accuracy percentage.

A working day on the currency chart

  1. 01

Before 9:00 am, note the overnight dollar move

A glance at where the dollar and crude oil went overnight explains most opening gaps in USDINR before you see them.

  2. 02

Let the first 15-minute candle close

The open absorbs the overnight news in one print. Signals are confirmed at candle close, so nothing valid appears before 9:15 am on that chart anyway.

  3. 03

Keep the hourly chart as the main view

Use it for direction and for swing signals. Drop to 15 minutes only to time an entry in the same direction.

  4. 04

Expect the cross pairs to stir after lunch

EURINR and GBPINR do most of their moving once European desks are active, from about 1:30 pm IST.

  5. 05

Be wary of signals after 4:00 pm

There is under an hour left. Either treat a late signal as a swing trade on the hourly chart, with the gap risk that implies, or pass.

Questions about Currency

Can I use WizeBuySell with an international forex broker or on MT4?

No. WizeBuySell runs only in AmiBroker and TradingView, and it is built and supported for symbols on Indian exchanges, including the four NSE rupee pairs. It is not meant for offshore forex or CFD platforms, there is no MT4 or MT5 version, and our support team will not set it up for that purpose.

Which currency pair gives the most usable signals?

USDINR has the volume, so fills are closest to the alert price, but its range is the smallest. GBPINR has the widest range, so its targets clear costs more easily, but its order book is thinner. Many users chart USDINR on the hourly timeframe and keep GBPINR and EURINR on a watchlist for afternoon moves. None of this is a promise of results.

Why are currency targets so close to the entry price?

Because the pairs barely move. Levels are drawn from the chart's own price behaviour, and a pair that travels fifteen paise in a day cannot sensibly have a T1 forty paise away on a 15-minute chart. If the targets look too small to be worth the costs, that is a fair conclusion; move to the hourly or daily chart.

Does the 5:00 pm close affect the signals?

Yes, and it is a limitation. The dollar keeps trading worldwide after NSE currency closes, and major US data comes out in the Indian evening. All of that is priced in at 9:00 am the next day in one jump, which can land beyond a stop-loss. The software does not predict gaps, so overnight currency positions should be sized for them.

Am I allowed to trade currency derivatives as an individual?

We cannot answer that for you. Eligibility and permitted purpose are governed by RBI and exchange rules, which have changed in recent years. Check the current circulars and confirm with your broker. WizeBuySell is charting software; it plots levels on a chart and has no role in whether a given trade is permitted for a given person.
